Names of God – Theos

Having completed a look at the Hebrew or Old Testament Names of God, we can now turn our attention to the New Testament or Greek words used to describe God and the new relationship a person can enjoy through the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Word: Theos

Translated: God

Use: ‘Theos’ is the NT equivalent of ELohim. In the LXX (the Septuagint or the Greek translation of the OT) it is the most frequently used name for God (used over 1,200 times in the NT.
