Suffering for Righteousness

THURSDAY

Have you ever reached out to love someone in the name of Christ only to be met with scorn? I know several people within eastern Europe who attempt not only to speak the words of Christ (e.g. the Gospel) but also attempt to be the hands of Christ. But while their efforts are sometimes appreciated, most of the time it is rejected. But this should not surprise us because Jesus taught us:

NAU Matthew 5:10
“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

NIV Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

KJV Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

And Paul taught the same to his young pastor protégé, Timothy:

NAU 2 Timothy 3:12
Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

NIV 2 Timothy 3:12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

KJV 2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

Are we living godly in Christ Jesus to attract the same kind of attention?
