Exalting in the Cross

FRIDAY

The focus on good behavior to obtain favor from God and with man is a distraction from a focus on the cross. The pursuit of good behavior keeps us from remembering the impossibility of this task. It is also an attempt to avoid rejection by the enemies of the cross.  A focus on the cross causes us to remember how far we fall short of the good behavior required by God and our need for the work accomplished our Savior, Jesus, on its beams.

NAU Galatians 6:12 Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.

NIV Galatians 6:12 Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.

KJV Galatians 6:12 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
