Satan – A cause of doubt

WEDNESDAY

NAU Genesis 3:4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! 5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

NIV Genesis 3:4 “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

KJV Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

At first glance, the passage detailing the entrance of sin into the life of man does not identify a cause for doubt in man. It does identify Satan as the chief culprit who introduced confusion into man’s thinking which ultimately led Eve to disobey God’s Word. You could say that the confusion caused by Satan led to Eve doubting the consequence God expressed for disobedience to His standard. It is therefore justified to identify Satan as one of the causes when we experience doubt.

Remember, our adversary, Satan, roams around like a lion searching out those he can destroy (NIV 1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.). The spirit world is real and dangerous! If you are doubting God at His Word, it is not a stretch to conclude that Satan is one of the causes ‘whispering’ in your ear! Be alert! Be single-minded! Be confident in God’s Word!
