Searching God’s Word removes doubt

THURSDAY

NAU Acts 17:11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

NIV Acts 17:11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

KJV Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

There is a reason that the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians. The Bereans were grounded in the authority of the Scriptures rather than the authority of a knowledgeable preacher of the Scriptures. They heard the preacher and then they searched the Scriptures to verify that what he had said was really true. Oh that we would be Bereans! There would be no room for doubt in our minds because our certainty would be grounded in a knowledge of God’s Word rather than questioning the teaching of a renowned speaker. Searching the Word of God strengthens our confidence in God and diminishes doubt.
